Benefits of Boiler Servicing

As a general rule of thumb, we advise all of our customers to get their boiler serviced once a year. We do so for a variety of reasons, why we've outlined below in this article.

The Benefits of Boiler Servicing

Having a heating engineer come around to inspect your boiler once a year means that any small issues identified can be rectified before they potentially become major issues. These could potentially lead to dangerous outcomes such as gas or water leaks and fires.

Unserviced boilers could also lend to the risk of carbon monoxide production, which is an odourless and colourless gas that is poisonous to humans.

Servicing your boiler annually means that you'll be helping to keep your boiler working as efficiently as possible with no energy going to waste, helping you save money on your energy bills. You'll also reduce your risk of having to fork out on an entirely brand-new boiler, which doesn't come very cheap!

It's also important to note that many manufacturers require an annual boiler service to be undertaken for your product warranty to stay intact. If you leave it longer than 12 months, you could potentially run the risk of rendering your warranty void.

If you're a landlord, it's also a legal obligation of yours to undertake a gas safety check on all gas appliances in your property and provide your tenant with a gas safety certificate every 12 months. If your property contains a gas boiler, make sure to get it serviced on an annual basis.

What does a boiler service involve?

A boiler service carried out by qualified heating engineers like ourselves include a thorough inspection of the following:

  • External check to see any signs of leaks/corrosion.
  • Inspection/ cleaning of internal parts such as the spark probe, main injector, heat exchanger and burner.
  • Assessment of the pilot light - this is usually only applicable to older boilers, and helps check to see if you're boiler is burning fuel properly.
  • Inspection of the flue terminal to ensure it isn't blocked and has been sealed correctly.
  • Inspection of pipework to look out for any general wear and tear on your gas and water pipes.
  • Review of pressure settings and adjust them accordingly if need be.
  • Checking general operations and controls.
  • Checking and venting all radiators.
