Boilers and heating across Sheffield

Boiler servicing. A yearly service checks the burner, flue, seals and safety devices and confirms the boiler is burning gas safely. Most manufacturers need one to keep the warranty valid. In a Sheffield terrace the boiler might be in the cellar, a kitchen cupboard or the loft, so tell us where yours is when you book. Read more about boiler servicing.

Boiler repairs. Low pressure, no hot water, banging or a fault code on the display: we find the cause and fix it, or tell you plainly when a boiler isn't worth spending more on. Read more about boiler repairs.

Boiler installation and replacement. If your boiler is old or keeps breaking down, we'll look at the house, talk you through the options and fit the one that suits it. In Sheffield that is often swapping an old back boiler, or a tank-fed system with a cylinder, for a combi, or moving the boiler somewhere more sensible. Read more about boiler installation and boiler replacement.

Emergency heating call-outs. Sheffield's hills catch the worst of the cold, and losing heating on a frosty night is hard going with young children or older relatives at home. We're open around the clock, so you can reach us whenever it happens. Read more about emergency boiler repairs.

Central heating systems. From one extra radiator in a loft conversion to a whole new system in a house that's been renovated, we fit, balance and upgrade central heating so every room warms up properly. Read more about central heating and radiators.

Properties in Sheffield

Sheffield's homes are a real mix. Victorian terraces and red-brick semis climb the hillsides in suburbs like Crookes. Former steelworks and cutlery works around Kelham Island have been turned into flats, alongside newer apartment blocks in the city centre. Out towards Dore on the western edge, houses are larger and often detached.

Each brings its own heating questions. Terraces often have a cellar, and an old boiler, cylinder or pipework may still be down there. Larger homes can have a system boiler and cylinder serving two bathrooms, where a combi may not keep up. In a flat in a converted building the flue route is often limited, so where a new boiler can go needs checking first, sometimes with the building's management company too.

Common Problems in Sheffield

Sheffield's water is generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem here than in many places. Sludge is the more common culprit. In older systems, black sludge collects in radiators and pipes, leaving radiators cold at the bottom and the boiler working harder than it should. A system clean can usually put that right.

Condensing boilers have a small pipe that carries water outside. On an exposed hillside wall it can freeze in a hard frost, and the boiler stops until it thaws. If your boiler cuts out on a freezing morning, this is often why.

Older combis in busy family homes and shared houses can struggle when the heating and showers are all wanted at once. Low pressure, kettling noises and the boiler locking out are all signs it needs looking at.

When you get in touch, tell us the boiler's make and any fault code on the display. It helps us bring the right parts and sort it in one visit where we can.
